Vilseck Elementary School Choir Lights Up Rose Barracks Tree Lighting
ROSE BARRACKS, Germany — The Vilseck Elementary School Choir brought festive cheer to the Rose Barracks Tree Lighting ceremony on Dec. 3, filling the evening with music, laughter and heartfelt messages that captured the spirit of the season. The choir, led by music teacher Ms. Alexandria Luke, is composed of 30 students in grades 2–5 who showcased both their creativity and emerging musicianship.
The ensemble performed two contrasting selections that highlighted the dual nature of choir performance—playful expression paired with meaningful artistry. Their opening piece, Ugly Sweater by John Riggio, featured lively call-and-response sections that encouraged students to strengthen their ear for harmonies and build confidence in singing different parts. Its humor and spirited energy delighted the audience and underscored the joy of performing together.
Balancing the fun was Carry the Light by Andy Beck, which included a moving solo by Aurelia Salgado. The song’s message of being a beacon of kindness and hope resonated throughout the crowd. Students navigated harmonies that were at times intentionally dissonant—a musical challenge that ultimately created a rich, expressive sound.
The performance reflected the heart of the VES Choir: joy, purpose and a commitment to sharing music that uplifts the community. As winter nights grow longer, Carry the Light served as a reminder that even the youngest voices can shine brightly, spreading warmth and positivity.
Under Ms. Luke’s guidance, the VES Choir helped make the Rose Barracks Tree Lighting a memorable celebration, showcasing the talent, dedication and spirit of Vilseck Elementary School’s young musicians.
