No School- Columbus Day
Hello Vilseck Lions!
What a fantastic week it has been! We were thrilled to see so many families at our PreK Open House — thank you to everyone who attended and helped make it a success. We love seeing our school community come together!
As the weather has turned cooler with more rainy days, please remember to send your child to school dressed appropriately, including a coat for outdoor recess. Recess is an important part of our day, and proper clothing helps keep everyone comfortable and safe.
We also want to thank you for your continued support and partnership. It’s been another great week, and we hope everyone enjoys a long and restful weekend ahead. Monday is a Teacher Workday, so there will be no school.
Please note that there is no supervision at school until 8:10 AM. We kindly ask that students are not dropped off or arrive at school before that time. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us ensure a safe and smooth start to the day.

🌟 Grade Level Spotlight: Second Grade
Second graders are buzzing with excitement and curiosity!
In Ms. Kellar’s class, students have been learning all about the butterfly life cycle and they’re seeing it unfold in real time! From caterpillars to chrysalises to butterflies, the classroom has become a living science lab.
Meanwhile, in Ms. Nell’s class, students have been diving into guided reading and building strong teamwork skills. They took on a fun STEM challenge called “If I Could Build a School”, imagining and designing their dream learning spaces. They also worked together to build marshmallow towers, practicing collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving.
💡 Parent Tip of the Week: Support Teamwork at Home
Why it matters:
Teamwork helps children develop communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills.
Try this:
Encourage cooperative play at home—board games, building projects, or cooking together. Ask questions like, “How can we work together to solve this?” or “What’s your role in this team?”
Bonus idea:
Watch nature documentaries or explore your backyard to spark curiosity about science topics like life cycles and habitats!
Have a wonderful weekend, and see you next week!

Favorite Part of Teaching:
What I enjoy most is the interaction and conversation. Teaching isn’t just about delivering information—it’s about listening, adapting, and learning alongside my students. Every class is a new opportunity to connect and grow. Plus, you hear some funny stories!
In Their Words
We are the sum of our experiences—each moment shaping who we are and how we see the world. Every person carries a story worth sharing, and every encounter offers a chance to grow. We all have experiences to offer and experiences to gain.
Fun Facts
- Favorite Book: The Nightengale by Kristin Hannah Children’s Book: Nana Upstairs, Nana Downstairs by Tomie dePaolo (because Grandmas are special!)
- Go-to Coffee Order / Snack: Mrs. Crabtree’s Coconut Lavendar Lemonade & Popcorn
- Hobbies: Hiking, kayaking, bike riding, baking, gardening, and traveling
- Something students would be surprised to learn: Even though I worked at a pizza joint for 3 years and smelled like pizza for 1,095 days, I still LOVE pizza.

Student Illness
Please do not send your student to school if he or she is ill. Staying home to get proper rest, nutrition, and care benefits your child and the rest of our Vilseck Elementary School community. Please ensure that all phone numbers and email addresses are current in ASPEN. This is essential in case your child becomes ill and we need to reach you promptly for pickup.
WHEN SHOULD I KEEP MY CHILD HOME?
- Fever =>100 F
- Actively vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Uncontrollable coughing
- Illness with contagious symptoms
- Students should remain home for 24 hours symptom free without the use of medication, or cleared by a medical provider.
- HOW TO PREVENT SPREAD?
- Wash your hands
- Cover your cough
- Stay at home
